6/5/2008 - Construction News

With the completion of the new building fast approaching, preparations will begin this summer to relocate a few services, classrooms and labs to new locations on campus. Every effort will be made to minimize the disruption of student computer services during the summer months. These projects will begin on 9 June 2008 and should be complete by the beginning of the fall semester.

The general use computer lab located in room B203 will be relocated to the second floor of the new building in room I203. This new lab will be ready by the start of the fall semester. Tutoring services will move from B203 to A303 and A304. 15 internet ready computers will be available in A305. 19 computers with common applications and internet access will still be available for use in the library.

The Med-Pro Ed program will be relocated from the Allied Health building to room B203. Considerable remolding will need to be accomplished which will require that the computers be removed from B203. Beginning in early June, we will remove these computers and begin upgrading them so that we can relocate them to the new lab. During this time, the computers in A305 and the library can be used for internet access and general use.

Helpdesk services will be relocated temporarily to the computer services area located in room C109 and C112. Students can still request assistance with user names, passwords, and technical assistance with Blackboard by emailing studenthelp@otcweb.edu, by telephone at 501.332.0285 or 501.337.5000 extension 1185. Students can also stop by the computer services office area or use the “Live Help” program located on our home page. Faculty and staff helpdesk procedures will remain the same.

Once the new building is occupied, student helpdesk services will be relocated to the office across from the general use computer lab in room I204. General technology questions, wireless access, network accounts and student email accounts will be handled from this location.

7/12/2007 - New Student E-mail System

Computer Services will be moving the student e-mail system to a new service during the first part of the fall semester. This new service will be hosted by Google and will provide improved quality of service and many new features. This migration will not be automatic and will require all existing students to establish new accounts. Any mail in your current inbox will not be moved to the new system. The current e-mail system will be taken offline on 1 October 2007 and any mail that you would like to keep should be saved by this date.

To establish the new account, stop by the computer lab in room B203 or the Computer Services office in room C109. Your new student e-mail address will be username@email.otcweb.edu and can be accessed at http://student.email.otcweb.edu. Be sure to update your student records with this new e-mail address. Stop by the computer lab for assistance with updating your records if needed. Important College information will be sent to this address.

Effective 12 July 2007, the only mail that will be delivered from the current student e-mail system will be mail addressed to an OTC email account. Once you are on the new system, all of your mail will be delivered. It is a good idea to get on the new system as soon as possible.
