Associate Degree in Nursing Information Sheet
The Allied Health Science Division offers an LPN/Paramedic to RN Program. This program is only open to students who are already Licensed Practical Nurses or Paramedics and who have completed all of the 27 hours of general education prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better. All student’s license, certifications, and registrations must be unencumbered. This is a 12-month program admits students each January and classes are held in the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Classes meet two nights a week 4- 5 hours or one day a week for 8-9 hours, and clinical is on Saturday and Sunday every other weekend. Upon completion of this course the individual may apply for licensure and write the National Licensure Exam for RN. Conviction of certain crimes may make the applicant ineligible to attend certain clinical sites. Random drug screening may be utilized at any time during the course of the program at the student’s expense. If any clinical site denies student access for any reason, the student will not be allowed to progress through the program. The Arkansas State Board of Nursing (ASBN) may refuse to issue or shall revoke the license of any person who is found guilty of or pleads guilty of or nolo contendere to any offense listed in 17-87-312 of the Act 1208 of 1999 (see ASBN website).
- You will be expected to furnish your own transportation to clinical sites. This includes sites in Malvern, Benton, Little Rock, and any additional sites added during the school year.
- You will be required to attend clinical during specific hours. These will be day shifts (some beginning at 6 a.m.) every other Saturday and Sunday. Most day shifts will be between 6:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. These times may vary depending on the clinical facility.
- Classroom instruction will be two nights a week from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 or 9:00 p.m. or one day a week for 8-9 hours
- College of the Ouachitas participates in all state and federal financial aid programs. Applications and information are available to all students through the Office of Financial Aid.
- The College of the Ouachitas Associate Degree Program follows a strict attendance policy. Students are required to attend all scheduled assignments (class, clinical rotations, and special assignments).
- The Associate Degree Nursing Student will be required to wear the student uniform to the clinical areas unless otherwise notified.
Admission for the LPN to RN Program is very competitive and completion of minimum requirements does not guarantee admittance to the Program.
Students will be notified of their acceptance status in a timely manner. Students not meeting the minimum criteria will also be notified of their status.
